SALEPUR: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly killed over dowry by her in-laws in Bramhanabati village of Kantapada block under Govindpur police limits on Wednesday.
According to an FIR filed by the victim’s father Pari Jena of Patasara in Jagatsinghpur, his daughter Mili Patra had married Taruna Kanta Patra in 2008. At the time of marriage, they had given `30,000 as dowry. But her in-laws were torturing her both mentally and physically demanding `20,000 more, Jena stated.
Her in-laws beat her to death on Wednesday night and burnt her body in the kitchen to make it look as suicide, the FIR stated.
Police on Thursday seized the half-burnt body of the woman and sent it to SCB Medical, Cuttack for postmortem. Police have detained the victim’s husband.
