BONAI (SUNDARGARH): A pregnant woman Sunaphula Dharua (25) died while being shifted from Sarsara Community Health Centre (CHC) to Bonai Sub-Divisional Hospital (BSDH) in the last stage of pregnancy on Sunday.
She was admitted to the CHC on Saturday by an ASHA worker.
As her condition deteriorated in the CHC, she was referred to Bonai Sub-Divisional Hospital at about 3 am. She died on the way, said sources in the family.
Soon after, angry family members alleged medical negligence and demanded an inquiry into the circumstances leading to her death. It was Sunaphula’s second pregnancy.
Sunaphula’s husband Jenamani said the doctor at CHC insisted on keeping her back at the centre though it did not have emergency facility.
After the incident, the medical officer of the CHC has gone on leave.
Denying allegation of medical negligence by the CHC staff, Bonai Sub-Divisional Medical Officer Dr Urmila Mishra said as per preliminary report, Sunaphula was suffering from fever and a detailed report has been sought to ascertain the reason behind her death.
