Madrasas Function Sans Odisha Government Approval

JAGATSINGHPUR: Even as there are nine Madrasas in Jagatsinghpur that are functioning with Government permission, the district has 50 more which are unregistered.

Sans monitoring by the district administration, these Madrasas have mushroomed in different parts of the district without the permission of School and Mass Education Department.

Sources said such Madrasas are functioning in Krishnanandapur, Bisanpur, Jagannathpur, Ambiki, Chaulia, Mohiuddinpur, Peteipur, Anjira, Balishai, Tanchana, Nuadhana, Talapatak, Barahapur and Rasalpur areas. Maulanas from Bihar teach in these institutions, which mostly cater to students from poor socio-economic background. Sources further claimed that Abdul Rehman Kataki funded many of these Madrasas.

Following Abdul’s arrest on Wednesday, School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra has expressed concern over the unregistered Madrasas and directed the District Education Officer (DEO) to monitor such institutions.

DEO Krushna Chandra Nayak said there are only nine Madrasas in Jagatsinghpur district that get grants from the State Government. Teachers of these aided Madrasas get their salary from the State Government. “We have no information about the other Madrasas functioning in the district,” he said.
