BHUBANESWAR: TThe Commissionerate of Police on Friday arrested a city-based realtor Ratikant Kanungo on charges of defrauding two persons of Rs 26 lakh over a land deal.
Kanungo, promotor of Shivani Builders and Pvt Ltd based at Saheed Nagar, had taken `10 lakh and Rs 16 lakh from two of his customers promising them plots at Kuha village under Jatni block on the outskirts of the City.
However, two years after the deal, Kanungo neither handed over the possession of land nor returned the money. The duped customers, Manoj Kumar Khuntia and Bhakta Tripathy, had lodged two separate complaints with Saheed Nagar police on December, 2014 and April this year.
An investigation was carried out on the basis of the complaints after which the accused was arrested. Further investigation is on, a police official said.
Kanungo was booked under Section 420 and produced in a court.
