Flights Land in Bhubaneswar for Kolkata Smog

BHUBANESWAR:  Four aircraft flying to Kolkata were diverted to Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) following bad weather there on Friday night.

The flights are Air India flight AI-229 from Dhaka, AI-022 from Delhi, Jet Airways flight 9W 2282 from Delhi and Indigo flight 6E 325 from Mumbai.

All four flights flying into Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport were diverted to Bhubaneswar after Kolkata ATC contacted their counterparts at BPIA for emergency diversion.

More than 300 passengers and crew members on board were accommodated in the airport terminal and a local hotel by the airlines personnel.

“Bad weather at Kolkata affected landing of flights which took off on Saturday after the sky was cleared,” an AI official said.
