National Animal Status for Cow Demanded

CUTTACK: The Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum Odisha has demanded declaration of cow as the National Animal by replacing the tiger.

In its annual seminar held here on Sunday, Forum members said cow, which is being worshipped by majority of India’s population, has to be protected. Despite ban on cow slaughter in several States, killing of the holy animal is being rampant. Declaration of cow as national animal can only check the slaughter, they stated. The lawyers’ body also called for naming the road from Tax Bar Association to Sector 10 CDA as APJ Abdul Kalam Road. This would be a great way to honour Missile Man and the People’s President, Forum president Ghasiram Verma said.

The members also discussed civic and traffic problems in the Millennium City and decided to take the issues to the court.
