DHENKANAL: Around 20 tonnes of rice were found stocked illegally in a cyclone shelter at Koilipangi, 14 km away from district headquarters on Wednesday.
District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), S Mishra said the rice was meant for distribution in anganwadi centres across Parjang block.
However, the contractor concerned dumped the rice at the cyclone shelter.
An inquiry has been called and action would be taken against him if he is found guilty of embezzling the rice stock, Mishra said.
Sources said the contractor was asked to lift rice from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown here and distribute it in Parjang block on the same day.
