Awareness Drive on Cleanliness

ROURKELA: The Rourkela civic body will take punitive measures against people and shopkeepers for littering and dumping of garbage, building debris on city roads.

This was announced by Rourkela ADM and Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) administrator, K Sudershan Chakravorty at the launch of an awareness drive, Clean Rourkela Campaign. An initiative of Rourkela Youth Forum (RYF), the awareness drive will continue till December 30.

Chakravorty said the administration has recovered around `12,000 as fine amount and lodged police cases under various provisions for illegal dumping of garbage and debris on roads. Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray and RMC Commissioner DP Mohapatra participated in the campaign.

The participants took out a rally from Bisra Square which  culminated at Old Taxi Stand.

Chakravorty added that the administration is contemplating to impose heavy fine on shop owners of RMC, Rourkela Development Authority and roadside vendors for dumping garbage on roads.
