BHUBANESWAR:The Commissionerate of Police will soon tag each pink auto plying in the Capital with a distinct identification number. This will help woman commuters to identify the three-wheelers easily and communicate the number to their family while travelling or to the police in case of an exigency, Police Commissioner Dr RP Sharma said.

Addressing a police-student interface at BJB Autonomous College here on Friday, Sharma encouraged the students to make extensive use of social media and interact with the police directly.

“We will take cognisance of any form of complaint on eve-teasing and related crimes against women over phone calls or emails, even if the complainant wishes to conceal her identity,” Sharma added.

Besides, police have identified a couple of service providers and their vendors who sell SIM cards without proper verification. An action will soon be initiated in this regard, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.

The Police Commissioner urged the college authorities to install CCTV cameras in the institutions.
