Koraput Braces for Jaundice

JEYPORE:With more than 40 cases of jaundice reported in Koraput town and its suburban areas in the last few days, the district administration has initiated measures to check the disease from spreading to new areas.

At a meeting chaired by Sub-Collector Puma Tudu here on Thursday, the officials of Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) and Jeypore municipality were directed to ensure that safe drinking water is provided to all residents. The officials were also asked to identify rusted and leaking pipelines and replace or repair those at the earliest.

The administration has directed the PHED officials to clean the tanks, drains and ponds near the PHED lines to prevent contamination of water.

The meeting also decided to launch a massive awareness campaign on benefits of safe drinking water in different areas of the district.

Jeypore Sub-Divisional Medical Officer DB Tripathy said the health department is adequately equipped to tackle jaundice cases.
