BHUBANESWAR: The body of an engineering student was found under suspicious circumstances near a filling station at Chandrasekharpur here on Thursday night.

He has been identified  as Mahaprasad Swain (25), a resident of Unit-VIII in the city. Swain was pursuing civil engineering in a local engineering college.

The incident came to light late on Thursday night after Chandrasekharpur police informed Swain’s kin that he had met with an accident and was admitted to Capital Hospital. Swain’s father Balaram rushed to the hospital to find his son dead with several injury marks on his body.

Swain, sources said was involved in a tussle with a group of youths during a college function on Thursday evening. He was even assaulted and sustained injuries on face and chest, after which he had come back home. “An hour later my son received a call from an unidentified number and left to meet someone. I suspect a foul play behind his death,” Balaram said.

The police, on the other hand, have denied allegations of murder claiming that circumstantial evidence corroborated a road accident.

Barun Jena, a friend of the deceased who was with him when the incident occurred, was undergoing treatment at a city-based hospital. A case has been registered at Chandrasekhapur police station and investigation was on, the police said.
