Inter-State Gang Held for Duping Jeweller

BERHAMPUR: Four members of an inter-State gang were arrested by Rayagada police on Monday for cheating a jewellery shop owner here. A car and 139 grams of gold have been seized from their possession.

The four, including a woman, have been identified as Neetarani Gupta, Balbihari Kamaliya and Chanda Kamaliya of Midnapore in West Bengal and Hemant Kumar of Haryana.

IIC Tapan Mohanty said the four reached the shop of one B Ramesh here on Sunday and sold some jewellery. After they left, the owner found out that the jewellery was fake.

On Monday again the four reached the shop to sell more ornaments. Ramesh informed the police and tried to keep the four engaged on some pretext, but sensing trouble they fled. However, police gave them a chase and nabbed the four near an over-bridge.

They were produced in Rayagada court on Tuesday which remanded them to judicial custody.
