BMC Mobile App for Civic Services

BHUBANESWAR: Civic services will soon be available at the fingertips of city residents with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) making foray into mobile governance with its application ‘My City My Pride’ (MCMP).

BMC officials began a trial run of the mobile application MCMP since the beginning of this month. During the trial run, complaints relating to solid waste management and street lighting can be registered through the application. MCMP is currently available for download on Google Play store.

Corporation officials will be intimated about the complaints registered through MCMP application via another application ‘BMC M-Office’. Both the applications have been linked so that every time a complaint is registered, the officials get intimated through M-Office in real time. In the ‘BMC M-Office’ application, complaints have been listed into different categories based on nature of grievances like sanitation and street lighting.

MCMP application, which is still in a nascent stage, requires the user to create their own profile. The user has to input the mobile number and Ward details in the application. After creating a profile, the user can register a complaint by uploading a picture and providing a description of the complaint. A ticket number, corresponding to the complaint, will be generated by the application. The user can check the status of the complaint at any stage through the application under the ‘Check Status’ tab.

BMC Deputy Secretary Subhranshu Mishra said the Corporation’s toll free number 18003450061 that deals with grievances related to sanitation will also be linked to MCMP. This will enable a cross-platform linkage of the registered complaints. Officials will also be intimated about every registered complaint through e-mail, he added.

The mobile application currently focuses on addressing the sanitation issues in the Capital. A host of other civic services is in the offing and will be gradually added to the application based on the response received during the trial run.

A detailed MCMP mobile application is expected to be launched officially later this month after the final touches are rendered.

Easy accessibility will be the highlight of MCMP application, but its productivity will depend on how well the grievances are addressed. Both the applications have been developed under the existing Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) management contract.
