Focus on Cash Crops in Rabi Season

MALKANGIRI: Around 17,000 hectares of land across Korukonda, Malkangiri and Kalimela blocks will be irrigated in the ensuing rabi season through pani panchayats.

Informing this at a meeting here on Thursday, Executive Engineer of Potteru irrigation division Binod Bihari Mishra said all efforts are being taken to ensure that water reaches the tail end of irrigation canals for benefit of the farmers.

Deputy Director of Agriculture Damodar Sethi said measures are being taken for cultivation of cash crops during the season and the Agriculture Department has agreed to provide all help in this regard to the pani panchayats in the district.

Members of 51 pani panchayats attended the meeting and emphasised on proper water management during the season.
