Hara Patnaik Passes Away

BHUBANESWAR: Veteran actor-director Hara Patnaik died of prolonged illness here on Tuesday. He was 56 and is survived by his wife and two daughters. The end came at 12.40 pm at a private hospital in the Capital City.

His mortal remains were taken to the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, his alma mater, and then to his Cuttack residence where people from all walks of life paid tributes to the departed soul. The final rites will be conducted at Swargadwar in Puri on Wednesday.

Born on October 12, 1958, Hara began his career in Ollywood with ‘Sahari Bagha’ in 1985 and continued to act in over 30 films, mostly as a villain, for two decades. Besides acting, Hara directed around 14 films, the last being ‘Om Sai Ram’ in 2012. He made his directorial debut with ‘Daiba Daudi’ in 1990 for which, he had also written the story. Hara had launched Ollywood stars like Anubhav Mohanty in ‘I Love You’, Sabyasachi Mohapatra in ‘Pagala Premi’ and Babushan Mohanty in ‘Romeo: The Lover Boy’.

The ace villain underwent treatment at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, after an advanced stage of blood cancer was detected in April, 2008. After successfully battling blood cancer, Hara was back in Ollywood and ‘Om Sai Ram’ was his first film after his recovery.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and several other politicians and film personalities condoled the demise of Hara.
