Bhusan Firing: Three Guards Arrested

Khirod fired on the boys apprehending theft of plant’s materials

DHENKANAL:A day after three boys were injured in a firing incident at Bhushan Steel Limited (BSL) in Meramundali in the district, three security guards of a private agency were arrested and forwarded to court by police on Friday.

The arrested guards are Khirod Sahoo, Ranjit Mohanty and Dillip Dikshit. They were working for Walson Security Private Limited. While Khirod had fired on the children when they were playing near a tank close to the steel plant’s boundary wall, Ranjit and Dillip were employed as security supervisors in the company.

During interrogation, Khirod told the police that he fired on the boys apprehending theft of steel plant’s materials. 

The three were produced in a local court which remanded them in judicial custody after rejecting their bail pleas. The injured boys - Amar Nayak (15), Laxmidhar Nayak (16) and Manoj Nayak (17) of Talabahal village - were discharged from the hospitals on Friday.

Secretary of Bhusan Steel Shramika Sangha PK Biswal urged the State Government to look into the security provisions inside the plant to prevent reoccurrence of such incident in future.

SP Nikhil Kumar Kanodia said the arms licence of the three guards will be cancelled and BSL administration warned of stringent action if similar incident occurs in future.

Assistant Labour Commissioner Laxmidhar Rath, District Labour Officer PK Mohanty and Dhenkanal Sub-Collector Nigamananda Panda visited the spot on Friday for an inquiry. They would submit a report in this regard to the State Government.
