Mobile App to End +2 Admission Woes Launched

BHUBANESWAR: A mobile application was launched by the Department of Higher Education on Tuesday to help students know their admission status in junior colleges.

The application - DHE Odisha - is compatible with mobile phones having Android operating system and can be downloaded from Google play store. Developed by Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) and managed by Student Academic Management System (SAMS), the application will have information related to 1512 junior colleges and help students know their form status, college information and seat vacancies. This is for the first time that the department will be using a mobile application for admission related activities.

With the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) announcing to publish the first merit list for Plus Two admission on Wednesday, students can check their Common Application Form (CAF) status from the mobile application. “Students do not have to rush to their colleges to know if they have made it to the first merit list or not. They can do so by downloading the mobile application. Once downloaded, students will be required to fill in their registered Money Receipt-cum-Index Number, which has been provided to them during submission of CAF in colleges. After registration, they will get their selection status. The process can be repeated for multiple CAF applications,” said Mihir Das, officer-in-charge of Plus Two and Plus Three admissions.

Besides the mobile application, the merit list will be uploaded to the Department’s website and notice boards in colleges. SMS will also be sent to students, who would submit their mobile phone numbers in the CAFs, about their selection.

The CHSE had this year received 4,98,229 applications for admission to Plus Two colleges. There are 1512 junior colleges with student strength of 4,41,220. There are 2,51,958 seats in the Arts stream, 1,42,175 in Science and 47,087 in Commerce stream. As many as 7,25,558 students have applied for Arts, while the number is 2,12,223 for Science and 57,307 for Commerce stream.

After the first merit list for Plus Two is announced on Wednesday, admission would be held from July 4 to 8. The second merit list will be out on July 13 and admission held between July 15 and 17. Admission to the remaining seats will be held in respective colleges on July 25. The DHE has announced to start classes in junior colleges on July 30. The DHE had decided to increase seats in junior colleges by 20 per cent in 2015-16 academic session.
