Timeline Set for Major Projects

Project Monitoring Group of Cabinet Committee on Infra reviewed 32 projects with investments exceeding Rs 1,000 cr

BHUBANESWAR: The Project Monitoring Group (PMG) of the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) has fixed timeline for achieving key milestones of major projects in the State.

The PMG led by VP Roy, Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, reviewed 32 projects with investments exceeding Rs 1,000 crore in roads, railways, steel, power and petroleum sectors at a high level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary GC Pati here.

The PMG was happy with the progress in respect of land acquisition and forest diversion proposals of the projects, said a senior officer of the Industry Department.

The Chief Secretary advised the project developers to expedite implementation of their projects. It was decided that miscreants creating bottlenecks in the way of implementation will be dealt under criminal laws.

It has also been decided at the meeting that steps will be initiated to include Angul-Sambalpur toll road in the highway corridor project and develop it to four-lane.

The Cabinet Secretariat has put e-PMS, an online project monitoring system, to monitor the projects involving investment between Rs 100 crore and Rs 1000 crore.

The system includes facilities for online submission of projects, editing and updating of projects, reviewing the projects and submission of details relating to bottlenecks, if any. 

Replying to media queries after the meeting, Principal Secretary in charge of Project Coordination Cell PK Jena said significant improvement has taken place in progress of projects because of this exercise. Many of the bottlenecks relating to land and forest diversion proposals have been removed and the projects put on fast track.

The major projects reviewed included Talcher-Bimlagarh and Angul-Sukinda new rail line, Chandikhole-Duburi-Talcher section of NH, Bhubaneswar-Puri NH, IOCL project for LPG pipeline between Paradip-Durgapur and Paradip-Ranchi, alumina refinery of Nalco at Damanjodi, Visa Thermal Power Project, Sahara India Power Corporation Thermal Power Plant in Balangir district, Monet Power, Tentulei Thermal Power project of NSL, Lanco Babandh Power project,  Ultra Mega Power Ltd and KVK Nilachal Power Ltd.
