SALEPUR: A 21-year-old mentally challenged girl of Dimiri village under Govindpur police limits was allegedly raped by Pahali Bhoi (55) of the village.
According to the FIR filed by the victim’s mother at Govindpur police station on Friday, her daughter was grazing cattle in a field outside the village when Bhoi raped her. Though the incident took place about four months back, her mother learnt about the incident a few days back when the girl showed signs of pregnancy.
Before approaching police, the girl’s mother placed the matter before the village committee which had summoned the accused. The village committee directed Bhoi to take all responsibilities of the pregnant girl. Instead, he filed an FIR at Govindpur police station alleging that the villagers were blaming him for the girl’s pregnancy while he was not responsible for it. Bhoi who father of five children, all of whom are married, is absconding after filing the FIR.
Both the FIRs have been registered and investigation is on, said Cuttack Sadar SDPO Nrusingha Charan Swain.
