BHUBANESWAR: Unidentified miscreants hurled acid on a school teacher while he was on his way home at Balipatna on the outskirts of the city on Monday afternoon.

The teacher sustained burns on his arm, shoulder and neck and is undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital.

The victim, Surendra Mohapatra, is a PET teacher in a local school. The incident occurred while he was going home during lunch break. Two youths on a bike intercepted him near Purohitpur area and hurled an acid can on him. Mohapatra  screamed for help.

Before locals could reach the spot, the duo managed to flee. Mohapatra was rushed to Balipatna Community Health Centre and later shifted to Capital Hospital. “The victim is out of danger but will be under observation for the next 24 hours,” a doctor said.
