Man Sentenced to RI for Raping Minor

BHUBANESWAR: The Court of District and Sessions Judge, Khurda on Monday convicted a man charged with raping a minor girl at Salia Sahi in 2013 and sentenced him to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment.

The court pronounced the sentence after the accused Biswamber Mishra was declared guilty under Section 376 of the IPC and Prevention of Children Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the convict.

Soon after the judgment, Mishra was taken into custody and sent to Bhubaneswar Special Jail at Jharpara. Mishra, a 38-year-old contract worker, is a native of Balanga village in Puri district. The incident took place on June 15, 2013 when Mishra, then residing at Salia Sahi, had lured a 15-year-old girl to a desolate location near a temple and raped her multiple times. The minor girl was then threatened by Mishra with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone. The victim’s parents, however, soon came to know about the brutality their daughter was subjected to and lodged a police complaint.

The minor was rushed to the Capital Hospital where the doctors confirmed rape. Mishra was arrested on the same day and a case registered against him at Nayapalli police station.
