Over Two Lakh Students Vie for Degree Courses

BHUBANESWAR: Over two lakh students have applied to take admission to 707 degree colleges in the State this year.

Till 6 pm on Monday, 2,11,938 students had submitted their Common Application Forms (CAFs) in Plus Three colleges against 2,05,641 last year.

This year, the seat strength in 707 degree colleges is 1,99,307 after the department increased it by 10 to 20 per cent. The first cut-off marks would be announced on July 15 while the first phase admission will be held from July 16 to 20.

The second merit list will be declared on July 25 and admission conducted from July 27 to 29. Admission to the rest seats will be done on August 6 and regular classes would begin on the same day.

For 2015-16 academic session, the department has de-linked the centralised e-admissions to post-graduate courses of seven autonomous colleges. These are RD Women’s (Autonomous) College, GM (Autonomous) College and Khallikote Autonomous College, which are being upgraded as Rama Devi Women’s University, GM Unitary University and Khallikote Cluster University respectively in 2015-16 session. The four other colleges are Binayak Acharya College, Gopalpur College, SBR Government Women’s College and Chhatrapur Science College. These four colleges will be constituent colleges of Khallikote Cluster University. The new universities will independently conduct Plus Three and PG admissions through Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited (OKCL).

As far as Plus Two is concerned, against 4,41,316 total seat strength, 1,26,085 seats have been filled up by the third day of first phase of admission. On the first day of admission to 1513 junior colleges on Saturday, around 53,000 students took admission to various streams. This year, 3,82,761 students applied with CAFs and of them, 3,12,102 had been issued intimation letters to take admission after first selection. While the first phase admission will continue till July 8, the second merit list will be out on July 13 and the admission held between July 15 and 17.
