BARGARH :A woman, Gulabati Bag (40), was arrested by Ambabhona police on Tuesday for allegedly setting her husband on fire. The charred remains of the deceased, Karim Bag (42) have been sent for post-mortem.
According to reports, Karim was a drunkard and used to beat up Gulabati, who reared goats for eking out living. The couple had a 12-year-old son Biswajit. Karim mostly spent his time drinking. He had recently mortgaged a goat for Rs 200 to meet his alcohol expenses and on Monday, Karim in an inebriated condition beat up his wife demanding more money.
Gulabati escaped to their neighbour’s house but Karim followed her but could not get hold of her. When Gulabati returned home, she found Karim lying on the ground. On seeing her, he started verbally abusing her. An agitated Gulabati subsequently tied up Karim, doused him in kerosene and set him ablaze.
