BHUBANESWAR:  Hundreds of women and social activists went on the rampage and ransacked a country liquor shop at Pandra under Mancheswar police limits here on Tuesday.

The irate women destroyed several cartons of liquor bottles and set exteriors of the shop on fire.

Sources said the women were planning to execute the act since long as most of the male members of the area frequented the shop which had become a hub of anti-social activities.

“People getting involved in brawls is a common sight in the vicinity,” an agitated woman said. A social activist said the women were forced to adopt the step as authorities ignored their appeals to find a solution to the issue.
