Class III Student Dies of Snakebite in School

BHUBANESWAR:An eight-year-old girl died after she was bitten by a snake inside a school at Balianta here on Friday. The police have booked two teachers on charges of negligence in this case.

The incident occurred in the afternoon when Pankajini Pradhan, a student of Class III in Somana Pradhan Primary School, complained of severe head reeling. School authorities informed the girl’s parents who rushed her to Pipili community health centre (CHC).

Pankajini was in a critical condition when she arrived at the CHC and was immediately referred to Capital Hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead. Father of Pankajini, Kabi Pradhan, alleged that negligence of teachers led to his daughter’s death. On the basis of Kabi’s complaint, Balianta Police registered an FIR against two teachers of the school.

While, the Block Education Officer is inquiring into the incident, the school authorities refuted the charges of negligence.
