CUTTACK: Miscreants on Tuesday looted `5 lakh from an employee of a private TV channel in the midst of a busy thoroughfare of Mangalabag here.

Two persons broke open the side trunk of the motorcycle, where the money was kept, and made away using the crowded area as their cover.

According to reports, the employee of Sarthak television Kishore Roul had gone to Axis Bank, Badambadi branch and withdrawn the money. On his way back to the channel office at Kanika Chhak, he stopped at Mangalabag to have lunch in a restaurant. He had stacked the money in the trunk of the motorcycle and did not bother to carry it while going inside the joint.

When he came to the wash basin after having his meal, he noticed two persons working with the trunk. By the time he realised their intent and managed to raise an alarm, the miscreants had already taken out the money and fled on a motorcycle.

Roul reported the incident at Mangalabag police station which registered a case and launched an investigation.
