BHUBANESWAR:Two days after a high profile sex racket was busted at IRC Village here, the Commissionerate of Police has launched a manhunt for kingpin Sunil Meher who managed to give police the slip during the raid.
Associates of Meher are being rounded up and grilled by police to ascertain his whereabouts. Starting as small-time pimp, Meher moved on to establish a well-organised inter-State prostitution ring spread across West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
He was arrested on three occasions by the Twin City police and once by Kolkata police under Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act. Meher lured young women, including students and models, from different parts of the country into flesh trade. Police had seized a diary which had phone numbers, bank details of Meher’s clients, apart from a couple of air tickets.
“Once arrested, Meher would be booked under PITA and later we would move the court to declare him as a habitual offender,” Police Commissioner Dr RP Sharma said .
