Six Held for Firing at Trader

PARADIP:Six persons were arrested by Jagatsinghpur police on Wednesday for opening fire at a trader, Manas Patra and his associate Bhrugu Beuria alias John on June 22. While Manas had escaped narrowly, Beuria sustained severe injuries.

Those arrested are Sanjaya Samal, Jayanta Khatua and Sarbeswar Samal of Kendrapara district, Milan Swain and Lalit Bhujabala of Puri district and Prasanta Swain of Anantapur in Jagatsinghpur district.

Police said Lalit had hatched a plan to eliminate Manas following difference of opinion over ownership of a shop in Paradip. Lalit had several criminal cases registered against him and the others arrested were member of his gang.

On June 22 at 7.40 pm, Lalit and his accomplices waylaid  Manas at an isolated location and opened fire at him. John who was accompanying Manas had received a bullet in his abdomen.

The six were produced in a local court, which remanded them in judicial custody after rejecting their bail plea.
