Medical Student Commits Suicide

A first year student of a private medical college here allegedly committed suicide at his hostel room.

BHUBANESWAR: A first year student of a private medical college here allegedly committed suicide at his hostel room leading to the institute being closed sine die. The student, identified as Manish Dhal of Jajpur, was found hanging in his hostel room by the inmates on Friday morning.

The hostel inmates and staff communicated the matter to Khandagiri police. Manish was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Soon after the news spread, hundreds of students gathered outside IMS raising slogans against the management. Glass panes and stationery items were damaged as the agitators  pelted stones at the college building demanding resignation of the Vice-Chancellor.

“He was a good student but not allowed to sit for the semester examinations because of attendance shortage. Manish was under depression over this matter for the last one week,” his friend said, requesting anonymity.

Police force was rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. The college was closed sine die by the authorities in the afternoon. Khandagiri police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body to Capital Hospital for autopsy.
