BHUBANESWAR:  Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday directed the Water Resources Department to renovate canals in Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts for irrigation purposes.

The Chief Minister reviewed the situation arising out of less than normal rainfall in several parts of the State and steps taken by the Agriculture Department to meet the challenge. Naveen also directed the Water Resources Department to repair all defunct lift irrigation points in these two districts.

The meeting decided to provide seeds of paddy, pulses and vegetables to farmers with less harvesting time. The State received 6 per cent deficit rainfall so far.
