DHENKANAL: Two truck helpers were killed when a coal-laden truck ran over them at the Raw Material Gate road within the Bhusan Steel Limited premises at Kantabania on Friday.
The deceased are Narendra Pradhan and Chandan Sandha of Angul district. The plant workers rushed them to the District Headquarters Hospital where the doctors pronounced them as brought dead. Kantabania police said both the truck helpers had slept on the road after parking their trucks inside the plant on Thursday. On the wee hours of Friday, another truck after entering the plant ran over the two. Plant workers staged agitation demanding adequate compensation to the families of the deceased.
Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers, Bibhu Prasad said BSL has time and again violated safety guideline leading to mishaps on the plant premises. A case was registered against BSL management by Prasad over the Friday’s accident.
Meanwhile, Kantabania police have detained Harihar Sahoo, driver of the truck.
