Mother, Son Found Hanging

BHUBANESWAR: The bodies of a woman and her three-year-old son were found hanging from a tree near an orchard at Moromara village in Haripur panchayat under Nirakarpur police limits in Khurda district on Saturday.

They were identified as Mami Pradhan (24) and her son Babul (3). Locals spotted the bodies and informed the police who rushed to the spot along with a forensic team and recovered a sharp weapon few metres away from the tree.

Police said Mami was married to Tapan Pradhan of the village in 2011. She was allegedly being tortured for dowry by her husband and in-laws.

Her father Narendra Jena alleged that Mami and her son were killed by Tapan and later hanged from a tree.

Jena, a native of Belapada lodged a complaint at Nirakarpur police station.

A case has been registered and police have detained Tapan and his mother Pramila for interrogation. Investigation is on.
