Talcher Lawyers to Go Ahead with Stir

TALCHER:  Notwithstanding the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s directive to Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) to start medical college soon, Talcher Lawyers’ Association has decided to  go ahead with its decision to impose economic blockade at Talcher industrial belt on July 28.

Talcher Bar Association president Santosh Kumar Sahu said nothing concrete emerged from Saturday’s talks between Naveen and MCL authorities at the Secretariat in Bhubaneswar.

“For the last eight years, we have been hearing from MCL and State Government about setting up a medical college here but nothing has come up so far other than signing of MoU to start the first session of the medical college from current year. Whenever any stir is threatened, Government resorts to such tactics to appease the agitators,” he said.

A medical college in Talcher is the need of the hour as the population here is vulnerable to acute industrial pollution.
