Utkal Violence: Students, Staff Hold Peace Rally

BHUBANESWAR:  Two days after a couple of Post-Graduate students were brutally attacked by miscreants, students, teachers and staff of Utkal University took out a peace rally on the campus on Monday.

On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Ashok Kumar Das urged students to shun violence and adopt peaceful methods to resolve differences. “Utkal University is one of the pioneer centres of higher education in the State which has been dedicated for constructive development of youths,” Das said.

The students pledged to be alert and communicate sensitive issues to university authorities at the earliest so that trivial matters do not snowball into violence.

“The Vani Vihar community stands together and appeals to the State Government, police and alumni to create awareness and help in building an exemplary environment for studies within the campus,” a group of PG students echoed.

The participants organised a candle light walk from the VC’s office to university gate to mark the event.
