One More Held for Varsity Violence

BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate of Police on Wednesday arrested a 25-year-old youth in connection with the attack on two post graduate students inside Utkal University campus on Saturday afternoon.

The accused identified as Rahul Routray, is a resident of Prachi Enclave at Chandrasekharpur. He is also a member of the fitness centre owned by Bapi Nayak who was arrested by the police earlier for triggering violence inside the varsity campus.

Saheed Nagar police have so far arrested eight persons (including Rahul) in this connection.

In a related development, the police arrested two members of the fitness centre on charges of unlawful assembly on premises of Chandrasekharpur police station three weeks back. They were part of a mob which protested Bapi's arrest, the police said.

They have been identified as Birendra Jena of Sikharchandi and V Gangu of Mancheswar. All the accused were produced in a court which remanded them in judicial custody on Wednesday.
