SALEPUR: Rainwater has inundated large tracts of agricultural land in Salepur, Mahanga and Nischintakoili blocks in Cuttack district.
Heavy rain lashed the blocks since Sunday following which, low-lying areas and roads have been submerged. Rainwater was flowing over Cuttack-Kendrapara State Highway near Nischintakoili and Salepur.
After rain stopped on Wednesday morning, the Roads & Buildings Department started draining out water with the help of JCB machines.
District administration sources said more than 15,000 hectares of paddy fields are under water. Paddy saplings were transplanted recently in Mahanadi-Chitroptala, Birupa-Genguti and Luna-Chitroptala deltaic region of the three blocks.
Similarly, 80 per cent of vegetable crops cultivated in the river valley of Mahanadi, Chitroptala, Luna and Govari rivers have been damaged due to rain.
