Teacher Held for Molesting Student

BHUBANESWAR: A school teacher who is also a coaching centre owner was arrested by police on Wednesday on charges of molesting a minor girl. The teacher, Hemant Kumar Nayak is employed at a school in Naharkanta village under Mancheswar police limits.

The girl, a Class VII student of the same school, had informed her mother about his activities on repeated occasions following which they filed a police complaint.  The girl was also a student of the coaching centre, police said. Hemant has been booked under Section 354 of IPC and Section 8 of POCSO Act.

9-year-old Rescued

A nine-year-old boy was rescued by social workers from Khurda Road railway station on Wednesday. Identified as Satyabrata Behera of Malipada under Jankia police limits in Khurda district, he was spotted by a taxi driver who informed social workers and local police. Behera was produced before Khurda Child Welfare Committee. He was later shifted to a shelter home. The minor was reportedly being trafficked to a neighbouring State but he could not reveal the identity of the person accompanying him, sources said.
