SAMBALPUR: Two persons, including a woman died and two others escaped narrowly after the car in which they were travelling veered off the road and fell into Power Channel of Hirakud Dam close to National Highway-6 under Burla police limits on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Rakesh Jha (35) of Balaji Colony in Khetrajpur, and Shanti Majhi (24) of Bengalipada in Badbazar of the city. The two others who had a close shave are Manoj Bohidar (28) and a woman, Satyabhama Pandey (27) of Dhubapada - both belonging to Badbazar area.
Reports said all the four had gone for an outing when the incident took place while they were returning. While Rakesh was driving, Shanti was in the front seat and Manoj and Satyabhama had occupied the back seat.
After the accident, Manoj and Satyabhama managed to come out of the vehicle and raised an alarm. Although the boatmen around the spot rushed to the rescue of the two trapped inside, they were retrieved dead.
