BHUBANESWAR:The State Government will soon launch a Renewable Energy Policy to promote renewable energy utilisation for ensuring energy access, security and sustainable growth for people, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced here on Thursday.
Inaugurating a legislators’ meet organised by Climate Parliament Odisha Chapter on the Assembly premises and attended by more than 56 MLAs cutting across party lines, Naveen emphasised on acceleration of renewable energy mechanisms and outlined a series of measures to be taken up by the Government.
The Climate Parliament presented the recommendations of the expert report ‘Re- Energising Odisha: An Assessment of Renewable Energy Policies, Challenges and Opportunities’ along with guidelines for Model Renewable Energy Policy in the State.
The report stressed the need to strengthen renewable energy institutional framework in the State by recasting Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) under the Department of Energy. There should be more emphasis on clean cooking energy with focus on household coverage. Renewable energy programmes should be integrated with rural development and at the same time, generate investor interest by providing single window clearances for projects.
Legislators can use MLA LAD funds to demonstrate several possibilities for renewable energy applications for both rural and urban development in the State, the report recommended.
Speaker Niranjan Pujari, Deputy Speaker Sananda Marandi, Finance Minister Pradip Amat, Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh and Convenor, Climate Parliament and MLA Amar Prasad Satpathy were present.
