BHUBANESWAR:The State unit of Samajwadi Party has demanded 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the State both in the field of employment and admission to educational institutions.

In a memorandum to Governor S C Jamir, the Samajwadi Party has demanded that the State Government should constitute an autonomous OBC Commission to safeguard the interests of such communities. Besides, the party also demanded that the OBC Finance Corporation should be activated for ensuring financial aid for interested OBC youths for self-employment.

The Samajwadi Party has requested the Governor to convene a high level meeting with the State Government in this regard.

State unit president of the Samajwadi Party Rabi Behera welcomed the decision of the State Government to increase reservation in admission for SC and ST students from the existing 20 per cent to 38.75 per cent. However, no steps have been taken to ensure 27 per cent reservation in jobs and admission to different educational institutions.
