Irregularities in Municipality Detected

DHENKANAL:The special audit conducted by the Housing and Urban Development Department has detected irregularities worth Rs 2.65 crore in Dhenkanal Municipality.

Citing involvement of former officials of the municipality in the scam, the department has directed the civic body to recover Rs 1.54 crore from former Executive Officer (EO) and Rs 40 lakhs from former chairman and Rs 26 lakhs from municipal engineer.

Sources said irregularities were detected in revenue collection and works like sanitation, road construction and implementation of several projects during 2010-14. Acting on complaints received from different quarters on the matter, the department had launched a special audit.

Chairman of the municipality Indramani Behera said all the financial transactions were audited by a special team deputed by Housing and Urban Development Department.
