Flag March ahead of Jail Bharo Today

ROURKELA: Ahead of the ‘jail-bharo’ agitation call given by the tribals on Thursday, Rourkela police on Wednesday evening conducted a flag march in the troubled areas under Brahmani Tarang  (BT) police limits.

According to reports, as many as 15 platoons of police marched through Jhartarang, Chikatmati and Bhalupatra village under BT police limits on Wednesday evening. Rourkela SP Anirudh Singh said the flag march was conducted to restore public confidence in view of the ‘jail-bharo’ call given by a section of tribals of Sundargarh district under the leadership of Birmitrapur MLA George Tirkey.

Earlier, the BT police on Sunday had registered a case against Tirkey under various provisions of IPC and Criminal Law (Amendment) Act for leading a mob to demolish boundary wall of a private company at Chikatmati. He had alleged that the land was illegally transferred to the company. Police on Monday had also forwarded 10 tribal agitators to court.

The tribals have been demanding cancellation of the notification on formation of Rourkela Municipal Corporation in which Jagda and Jhartarang panchayats have been included.
