3 Maoists Surrender

KORAPUT: Three wanted woman Maoists of Koraput Divisional Committee under Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) surrendered before the Koraput police on Monday.

The three, Sapai Miniaka alias Tulsi, Talas Wateka alias Geeta and Laxmi Prasska of Narayanpatana block, were involved in several cases of loot, murder, attack and arson in the bordering areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh for past several years. They were in the wanted list of several police stations in the district and the State Government had announced a reward of ` one lakh on each of them.

Speaking to mediapersons, Koraput South-West Range IG Yeshwant Jethwa said the women cadres decided to shun violence as they were harassed by other Maoist cadres in the camps and were disillusioned with their anti-tribal activities.

“We appreciate their decision and would give them proper package as per Government norms for leading a normal life,” the IG said, adding that police would welcome all the Maoists and other militia who want to join the mainstream.

In past few months, as many as 2,000 Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh activists and 100 top cadres under Koraput-Srikakulam Division have surrendered.
