Heat Wave Toll Jumps to 81

The heat wave death toll in the State jumped to 81 though blistering conditions showed a let up in many parts of Odisha.

BHUBANESWAR: The heat wave death toll in the State jumped to 81 though blistering conditions showed a let up over many parts of Odisha on Wednesday.

With 16 death reports, Ganjam topped the list whereas 15 persons allegedly died due to sunstroke in Jajpur. Cuttack reported 10 deaths while Khurda district recorded nine. However, the State Government has admitted 11 deaths so far.

Meanwhile, the heat wave conditions showed a drop in intensity over coastal districts where mercury fell below 40 degree Celsius. Central Odisha towns such as Angul and Talcher also reported a drop.

Western Odisha, though, continued to feel the impact despite a marginal drop in the day temperature.

Titlagarh report 47 degree Celsius while Bhawanipatna recorded 46 degree C on the day. In other parts, the day temperature fell by about two to three degree Celsius.
