Power Outage Adds to City's Summer Woes

Residents of Badagada, Brit Colony, Old Town and BJB Nagar areas in the City were put to hardship due to the power outage.

BHUBANESWAR: Residents of Badagada, Brit Colony, Old Town and BJB Nagar areas in the City had to face great inconvenience due to power outage after a high tension cable running through a transmission tower near Sriram Nagar was damaged. The incident occurred at around 5 pm resulting in disruption of power supply to these areas for more than four hours. Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) engineers were pressed into service to repair the damaged cable. However, the marshy area around the tower proved to be deterrent for the engineers to carry out the restoration work. “We diverted power from other sources as a stopgap arrangement and power supply to these areas was restored at around 9.30 pm,” a senior CESU official said. The unscheduled power cut and delay in restoration amidst scorching heat resulted in resentment among residents.
