Sudarsan Bats for Creative Protest

BHUBANESWAR: As litterateurs, scientists, artistes and film-makers join the 'Award Wapsi' bandwagon to protest what they call growing intolerance, renowned sand sculptor Sudarsan Patnaik on Monday presented a different view.

The Padma Shree award winner said returning award is not the solution to protest intolerance. He created a sand sculpture on the 'Award Wapsi' issue with a message 'Please express views creatively' on Puri beach.

The artist felt that protest over intolerance should be through creative works such as writing articles, creating art and films. He appealed that if there is a feeling of intolerance, prominent people should show it through their creative works like he did with a sand work.

Patnaik created some awards like trophies and medals and used about three tonnes of sand to create this 4-ft high sculpture. Patnaik has participated in more than 50 International sand sculpture championship and festivals around the world and won many prizes for the country.
