BHUBANESWAR:International athlete Dutee Chand has bagged the prestigious 23rd Ekalabya Award for 2015. The Ekalabya Award Committee selected Dutee at a meeting held here on Saturday.
The athlete will get a cash award of Rs five lakh along with a citation at a special function. Similarly, woman weightlifter Pramila Kirsani and chess player Saina Salonika will be felicitated. Both will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each along with citations.
The award was instituted by Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), managed by IMFA Group, in 1993. It is given every year to young sportspersons of the State in recognition of their outstanding performance.
Member of Lok Sabha and trustee of IMPaCT Baijayant Panda announced the award. The date for Ekalabya Award function will be declared later.
