BHUBANESWAR: Notorious sex racket kingpin Sunil Meher was arrested by the Quick Action Team (QAT) of Commissionerate Police from Kolkata airport on Thursday. Meher was wanted by the Twin City police in two cases registered at Nayapalli and Chandrasekharpur police stations.

A source tipped off police about Meher’s stay at Ahmedabad since a week and his plan to fly from Ahmedabad to Kolkata on a morning flight. The QAT, which was dispatched to Kolkata by road on Wednesday night, arrested Meher within half an hour of his arrival at Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport.

Meher was brought to the City and will be produced in local court.

On March 23 this year, police raided a brothel run by Meher in Chandrasekharpur area. Similarly, on July 20 and August 3, police busted sex rackets in Nayapalli area of which Meher was the kingpin. The Commissionerate Police had formed a special team to nab Meher.

“He was on police radar for one month and a warrant was issued in his name in the Nayapalli case. We got information about his travel plans and planned the arrest,” Police Commissioner YB Khurania said.
