PARADIP: Members of Shree Lokanath Taila Bisodhanagara Thikadar Sangh (SLTBTS) on Wednesday alleged financial irregularities in the construction work of `3,150 crore polypropylene project of IOCL in Paradip and demanded a high-level inquiry into it.

During the annual organisational meeting of the body here, they protested the poor quality work carried out by the construction agencies and alleged that inferior raw materials have been used. The construction companies have also violated the government labour norms which ensure minimum wages to the skilled, unskilled, high-skilled workers along with EPF and ESI benefits. But the agencies are not paying as per the norms to the local labourers, they said.

Sources said China Kunlun Contracting and Engineering Corporation was awarded the contract worth `2,200 crore through global tender. Of this, Ital-Thai Development Company (ITDC) and SIMPLEX Infra got work order worth `100 crore each through subletting. Later, the ITDC engaged local contractors and labourers to carry out the work.

However, they alleged that the local Manager of ITDC removed some of the contractors and engaged others from outside Odisha. SLTBTS president Dhirendra Kumar Samal, secretary Mahendra Kumar Samal, advisors Sasanka Shekhar Acharya, Nrusingha Charan Sahoo, Saubhagya Biswal and Bholanath Parida were present. Meanwhile, members of contractors’ association, trade unions and BJP leaders have sought the intervention of the Executive Director of Paradip Refinery of IOCL to look into the alleged irregularities.
