BERHAMPUR: Tension prevailed in MKCG Medical College and Hospital here on Tuesday evening following the arrest of six junior doctors in connection with the attack on journalists and three youths last week.

Protesting the arrests, the medicos ransacked the Casualty Ward and locked it. Later, more than 200 medicos gheraoed the Baidyanathpur police station.

To avoid any untoward incident, armed police were deployed on the medical campus. Amid tight security, the six medicos were forwarded to SDJM court at around 9.30 pm.

Last week, a group of junior doctors had abused three youths, including an autorickshaw driver, for parking the vehicle inside the MCH campus. When the youths protested, the medicos allegedly assaulted them and the former had to be rescued by Baidyanathpur police.  Subsequently, the medicos sat on dharna outside the Baidyanathpur police station demanding that police hand over the three youths to them. Two photojournalists, were also assaulted by some junior doctors allegedly in an inebriated condition.

A police complaint was registered by the three youths and photojournalists.
